You can easily think that it is a sick joke, but no, that is not the case. The New Year’s classic The Countess and the Butler, or “Dinner for one” as it is actually called, will be presented with a prequel in the form of a TV series. This is reported by the British The Guardian, which tells us that the name of the new series will be “Dinner for five” and will take place in 1921 on an estate in Sussex.

There, the wealthy and unmarried Miss Sophie is wooed by five different suitors. The Prussian military Admiral von Schneider, the adventurer Sir Toby, the French connoisseur Pommeroy, the colonizer Winterbottom and also James, the son of the landowner. The German company UFA will be in charge of the production, which will begin filming next year.

The series’ producer Tommy Wosch tells us The Guardian how as a child he always wondered what it would have looked like when the various guests at the table were still alive. Something we can now look forward to getting an answer to next year.

Do you think this sounds like a fun idea or is it totally unnecessary?

Same procedure as last year?
