“Let’s just say it’s a responsibility that I took very seriously,” she continued. “I trusted the creative teams (of the show). That’s what I needed to do.”

“These are decisions made by the writers, the producers,” she insisted. “These are very important decisions, which they have spent years on, to know what to show.”

Death will not be shown

The specialist journal Deadline revealed last year that the car crash that claimed Princess Diana’s life on August 31, 1997 in Paris, aged 36, would not be shown. “It will be the above,” a production person explained.

The episode of Lady Diana’s death will feature Prince Charles arriving in France to retrieve the body of his former wife and escort her to London.

“We were dreading the moment when (we would have to film the accident),” the person added. “You have to admit that there is some anxiety. A palpable feeling of slight tension. It’s such a sensitive subject.”

Since 2016, The Crown imagine behind the scenes of the reign of Elizabeth II, renewing the cast every two seasons to stick to the age of the characters.
