Admittedly, we could only report yesterday that we shouldn’t count on The Division 2 for Playstation 5 and Xbox Series, which can definitely be interpreted as the publisher Ubisoft not planning to future-proof its looter shooter in the near future. However, the usual support, such as patches and bug fixes, continues to roll in steadily. However, that has not always been the plan.

The original idea, it appears in a new interview, was to cut the ribbon with The Division 2 back in 2020, not even two years after release. The game’s Creative Director Yannick Banchereau tells the site MP1st that the later scrapped decision was never based on reception, but that Massive Entertainment was predicted to be too busy developing their new Star Wars game.

There just weren’t enough people to give the game the attention it needed, but when The Division 2 hit the big time with the Warlords of New York expansion in March 2020, Ubisoft finally decided to split support between Massive , partly Ubisoft Bucharest. The rest is history, and today The Division 2 is chugging along at a slow pace. The question is, of course, what the future will look like.

Are you glad Ubisoft didn’t cut support?
