Ross, who played Albert Square badass Grant Mitchell, has focused on making documentaries and hosting game shows in recent years but says the acting bug never got him. quits.

He told me, “My first day on set (at Blindspot) was Saturday night and I was as nervous as I was, in fact more nervous, than when I first walked on set of EastEnders. in 1989.

“I was extremely nervous and didn’t get much sleep the night before.

“I was 24/25 then, I was confident and arrogant and now I’m a wiser, older man.

“I was extremely nervous and didn’t get much sleep the night before.

“It’s a wonderful cast, but working with actors again was a big step for me and I know I’m a very lucky man.”

The gritty four-parter is Ross’ first major acting role in 15 years, barring his brief return to Walford to film Barbara Windsor’s final scenes as Peggy Mitchell in 2016, and he says it was “significant ” to reconnect with this aspect of his career.

Ross explains, “For me, going back to acting is so important.
“It’s the first time in 15 years other than going back to EastEnders for Barbara’s departure.

“But at that time I knew privately that she wasn’t doing too well, so I did it not because I wanted to be an actor, but because it was someone I loved. a lot.

“Ben Frow (Channel 5 boss) played a blind role not asking me to do a documentary for them, not asking me to do a game show, but maybe what a lot of people want me to do do – go back to comedy.”

Blindspot, which will air later this year, centers on a disabled woman called Hannah, played by newcomer Beth Alsbury, who believes she witnessed the prelude to a murder while monitoring CCTV in a difficult area.

When her story is dismissed by the cops in charge of the case, she suspects they are corrupt and discovers her life is in danger.

Ross describes his character as a “bit of a loser”, which he admits is a refreshing change from the roles he’s usually associated with.

He says: “It’s good because when I was doing theater I was playing SAS sergeants or tough cops and in real life I did documentaries in conflict zones so it’s good for me that he is not hard, he is vulnerable.

“He has his own private battles to overcome. It’s about overcoming adversity. »

His return to action will spark inevitable speculation of an EastEnders return, especially as the Mitchell family still plays a central role in the BBC1 soap opera.

Ross says, “In life, you never say never.”

Channel 5 has also announced a series of other new shows.

Jay Blades presents a three-part docu about London’s East End, Alexander Armstrong sets out on his journey again, this time to Sri Lanka, and astronaut Tim Peake will explain the mysteries of the universe.

Larry Lamb stars in the drama The Inheritance.

He embodies a father whose death sows chaos in his family.

He said: “I’m an OG trainspotter, I love it.

“I have my own train line.

“I have a metro station with a departure board.

“I have a bus stop at my house – I am that person.”

Poor Rylan was forced to create his own public transit because his fame makes the subway difficult.

He added on the This City podcast: “I tell you what my problem is. I am 6 feet 4 inches tall. I can’t hide. And when you’re in a train car, there’s nowhere to go.

“You can’t just walk away and be polite and say, ‘Be careful guys, see you later!

“You’re stuck and it was actually a bit freaked out, I’m not going to lie.” Everyone was lovely but it was very claustrophobic and I just knew I couldn’t get out.
