If you are interested in building a computer with Windows 10you’d better hurry: Microsoft will stop directly selling licenses for this version of the operating system (OS).

According to a report published on the website of PC World and according to notices posted on the Windows 10 Home, Pro and Workstation pages, the Redmond company will stop digital downloads of Windows 10 on January 31, 2023.

While Microsoft will support Windows 10 for a few more years, the company’s decision means netizens won’t be able to purchase a license to the OS except through existing license stores at third-party retailers.

Literally, the Microsoft’s Windows 10 Home product page and the Windows 10 Pro product page express: “January 31, 2023 will be the last day this Windows 10 download will be offered for sale. Windows 10 will continue to be compatible with security updates that help protect your PC from viruses, spyware, and other malware until October 14, 2025″.

Pressure from Microsoft for Windows 11 to prevail

The de-licensing of Windows 10 means Windows 11 will be the only operating system Microsoft will let you buy, pushing for it to prevail despite detractors and users who preferred to stick with the older operating system.

The alternative for those who want to buy a Windows 10 license will be to resort to external retailerswho are probably rubbing their hands on this announcement.

The bottom line is that this is bad news if you are an enthusiast or system builder, a fan of Windows 10, and someone who does not want to upgrade to Windows 11.
