Mexico City.- American television presenter Jerry Springer, famous for his controversial shows with vulgarities and altercations, has died at the age of 79 at his home in Chicago.

A family spokesperson reported that Springer died after “a brief illness”; However, the international media TMZ announced that he had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer a few months ago.

Springer was supposed to try to mediate, but the encounters often ended in fistfights, with security guards intervening to restrain the guests.

In the late 1990s, the show topped the daytime television ratings in the United States, surpassing even celebrity host Oprah Winfrey’s show.
