This is becoming clearer for the main competitor of the Galaxy Z Flip 4, the Oppo Find N2 Flip, whose complete technical sheet has just been shared. Oppo’s smartphone, which could be launched soon in France, would have a few steps ahead of its main competitor.

For the first time since the launch of its “Z Flip” range, Samsung could face a major competitor on a global level. Indeed, Oppo is preparing to release one of its folding smartphones outside of China: the Oppo Find N2 Flip. What endanger Samsung’s hegemony in this market?

A complete technical sheet

Officially presented last December alongside the Find N2, the Oppo Find N2 Flip was stingy with details. Today is the leaker “Snoopy Tech” who shares the complete technical sheet of the product which, according to him, could be released as early as February globally. We take stock.

Let’s start with the technical sheet which reminds us of certain points, while providing other very interesting elements. Thus, the phone will be powered by a Dimensity 9000+ chip from MediaTek which, according to our tests, offers performance equivalent, or even superior in certain benchmarks, to that of a Snapdragon 8+ Gen1 which equips the Galaxy Z Flip 4.

The other very interesting point concerns the battery. Oppo has managed to integrate a 4300 mAh battery and compatibility with 44W fast charging into its Find N2 Flip. For comparison, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4, which is very similar in size, has a 3700 mAh battery and compatibility with 25W charging. A significant difference, at least on paper.

We also learn a little more about the photo configuration of the Find N2 Flip. In addition to its 50 Mpx main camera module (Sony IMX890), there would be an 8 Mpx ultra-wide-angle module (IMX 355) and a 32 Mpx front camera module (IMX709). For comparison, the Z Flip 4 has two 12MP camera modules on the back and one 10MP on the front.

Regarding the display, the Oppo Find N2 Flip would go much further than its competitor. Indeed, the 1.9-inch secondary screen of the Z Flip 4 could seem very small compared to that of its competitor which will be 3.26 inches. The interest here is to always display more information on the external screen so as not to have to open the phone. Additionally, the main AMOLED display of the Find N2 Flip (6.8-inch, Full HD+, 120Hz) could close completely flat and have a much more discreet crease thanks to a new type of hinge that Samsung is expected to use… on the Galaxy Z Flip 5.

A calendar story

But the “timing” is all important here. Indeed, the next folding smartphone from Samsung could very well compete with its Chinese competitor. But the Korean brand does not plan a new version of its folding phone before the summer of 2023, probably in August like every year.

According to Snoopy Tech, the Oppo Find N2 Flip could be launched worldwide as early as February, on the occasion of the MWC, the world mobile exhibition. This would leave Oppo about six months to promote its product before the release of a probable Galaxy Z Flip 5. Let’s not forget, however, that outside of China, Samsung has for the moment a reputation much higher than that from Oppo.

The other big unknown concerns the software overlay that Oppo will offer. A decisive element for the user experience that Samsung has had time to refine over the versions of its Z Flip. The year 2023 promises to be exciting in the folding smartphone market.
