Nothing to do for the much talked about revival of Gossip Girl, one of the most famous series of recent years aired in America on the CW. HBO Max, the platform that hosted this new iteration of the show, has decided to officially cancel it after only two seasons despite the reviews being positive.

Gossip Girl revival canceled after only two seasons

We are very grateful to showrunner/executive producer Joshua Safran and executive producers Stephanie Savage and Josh Schwartz for taking us back to the Upper East Side and all the Constance Billard scandals. While we won’t be moving forward with a third season of ‘Gossip Girl,’ we thank them for the tantalizing love triangles, calculated backstabbing, and flawless fashion this series has brought to new audiences.

The finale of the second season, and therefore of the entire series, will air on the streaming platform on January 26. The Gossip Girl revival takes place eight years after the conclusion of the original series: a new cast of Manhattan’s proficient students take the lead under Gossip Girl’s watchful eye, proving how much social media, and the New York landscape itself, have changed in subsequent years. The cast includes Jordan Alexander, Eli Brown, Thomas Doherty, Tavi Gevinson, Emily Alyn Lind, Evan Mock, Zion Moreno, Whitney Peak, Savannah Lee Smith and Grace Duah.

The original series, which aired from 2007 to 2012, is based on the novels by Cecily von Ziegesar and made Blake Lively and Ed Westick famous on the mainstream scene, still remembered by fans today for their roles as Serena van der Woodsen and Chuck Bass. The second season of the revival was announced with great fanfare in 2021 and then debuted on HBO Max last December.
