IMMORTALITY

For many, the unmissable event of the year in terms of indie games is immortality. After the success of Her Story and Telling Lies, creator Sam Barlow offers this new experience during which we will have to investigate the disappearance of Marissa Marcel, an actress who has appeared in three different films. Tinykin

Compared to Pikmin from its first presentations, Tinykin enjoys an absolutely adorable colorful universe. You play as Milo, a very small being who has barely landed on Earth. Its objective is to catch hundreds of tinykins, mysterious little beings, and exploit their various abilities to succeed in returning to your planet where you will find a normal size. The game takes advantage of a very complete world in which the “Pikmin gameplay” is perfectly suited to platform and puzzle-games. We also like the pleasure of exploration and discovery as well as the humor of the characters and dialogues. The game had received a very good score of 17/20: “Tinykin brilliantly revisits the “Pikmin-like” by successfully adapting it to the platform game with puzzle-game inclinations. A real invitation to explore, one can only be fascinated by the incredible microscopic universe imagined by the Splashteam.“

Cult of the Lamb

Appreciated for its delirious universe and its adorable characters, Cult of the Lamb is clearly one of the indie games that made 2022. In this title that mixes action and management, the player embodies a possessed lamb who finds himself narrowly saved by a stranger, who instructs him to seduce as many faithful as possible to repay his debt. Beyond its catchy concept, Cult of the Lamb has a good depth and a concrete rhythm which notably earned it a score of 17/20: “A favorite ! Cult of the Lamb is an action-management title that works devilishly well, with a strong concept – as a reminder: taking care of a demonic cult – that it holds from start to finish for ten / twenty hours game offered by the adventure.”

Card Shark

This is an innovative concept that even made us travel to France. Card Shark is a card game set in 18th century Europe in which you will have to cheat to reach the table of the King of France. To achieve this, the player must use real techniques developed by the Count of Saint-Germain in his “Memoirs Without Words”. It’s up to him to manipulate the cards and mini-games to unlock new places, generate more earnings and achieve his goals. We love his burlesque writing, his catchy concept and his techniques transcribed with talent. Result: 16/20! “At the same time clever, original, exhilarating, effective, the game from the Nerial studio offers here a unique adventure.”

souldiers

Released last June, souldiers presents itself as the worthy representative of a genre popularized by Metroid and Castlevania. Rich in its varied but demanding Souls-like gameplay, the title pays homage to the 16-bit generation with an artistic direction made in pixel art for a particularly successful retro style. In short, a platform action game that constantly surprises with 3 playable classes radically different and a narrative full of old school references. Souldiers inherited the rating of 16/20: “Demanding without ever being totally off-putting or discouraging, Souldiers is highly recommended to all fans of pixel art metroidvania platform action games.“

The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe

This year, a cult game has made a comeback in an Ultra Deluxe version. The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe. The original experience is intact, retains its special aura, but is enriched with new levels and branches. The new ones are also very well received since the additional content will only reach them once the corridors of The Stanley Parable have been sufficiently explored. After signing Full Metal Furies in 2018, the Cellar Door Games studio has decided to offer a sequel to its first success: Rogue Legacy, an essential “genealogical rogue-lite”. At each death, you have to start the journey again and choose an heir with random genetic attributes with several classes offering a variety of play styles.
