There has been uncertainty as to whether King Harald would show up or not. He has not been on official duty since being hospitalized with an infection.

On the steps outside the chapel, the king told TV 2 that he feels “quite well”

The king was discharged from Rikshospitalet on Wednesday after a stay of two days. The king was hospitalized on Monday after contracting an infection that had to be treated with intravenous antibiotics.

– It was very nice that he came home and that we get to celebrate Christmas as planned, Crown Prince Haakon told TV 2 on Saturday.

Now he is well enough to take part in the traditional Christmas service in Holmenkollen. The rest of the royal family also participate in the service.

TV 2’s royal house expert was unsure in advance whether the king would show up.

– We know that he is in better shape since he is in place today. It is dramatic when he is admitted to the National Hospital, but for the king it is a bit like going to the GP. He is 85 years old, so it is natural for him to be checked at the hospital when he feels unwell, says TV 2’s royal house expert Ole Jørgen Schulsrud-Hansen.

It is still not clear whether the king will give this year’s New Year’s speech himself. When he was admitted to Rikshospitalet, the Royal Palace said they were planning for several options.

This year the royal family celebrated Christmas at Kongsseteren, just a stone’s throw from Holmenkollen chapel. That is what NTB writes.
