The video game adaptation of The Last of Us has been making the headlines for days. Quite a few well-known critics threw superlatives around in the run-up to the first episode. It was not uncommon to read that the series was in this country on Sky, or Wow is broadcast every Monday at around 4:30 a.m. is an absolute highlight and The Last of Us is the best adaptation of a video game series ever. We’ll tell you whether the first episode met our high expectations and how well Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey act as Ellie. Our criticism goes without saying free of spoilers.
The Last of Us – Episode 1: The most important questions answered
How high is the series? The Last of Us (buy now ) has an immensely high production standard. The sometimes extremely complex backdrops look totally real, nothing looks different cheap effects out of the computer and the scenario is totally believable. The whole staging, from the camera angles to the lighting, moves on cinema level. The cut, the pacing – everything is made of one piece and implemented extremely competently.
Do the actors fit their roles? As for this question, arguably the most unsettling part of the game’s fans was in the run-up to release. But one can rightly claim: Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones, Star Wars: The Mandalorian) and Bella Ramsey (also: Game of Thrones) do an excellent job. Joel in particular is hit perfectly and fits like a glove to a serial soldier of the extremely brutal military administration. But Bella Ramsey also acts as Ellie with exactly the right mix of self-confidence and insecurity – as a teenager who grew up in a divided society and a hostile environment.
Is the series exciting? For fans of the game it should The Last of Us be one festival. The reviews in advance, which reported the best implementation of a game of all time, turn out to be absolutely correct. But that makes one objective assessment also a little difficult. If you haven’t played the legendary action-adventure on Playstation or PC or are simply not interested in video games at all, the euphoria may not be that great. But even in this case, the first episode of The Last of Us a promising start to a high-quality series that should inspire millions of viewers in the coming weeks.
When is the second episode of The Last of Us coming out?
In the US, The Last of Us will be on HBO max shown. However, the streaming provider cannot be used officially in this country. That’s why you’re up in Germany Sky, or wow reliant. The subscription model at the entry-level price costs 7.99 euros and can be canceled on a monthly basis. The first season includes 9 episodes, which are provided as a stream on a weekly basis.
