Värnamo municipality announces on its website that the pedestrian and cycle paths in Apladalen are closed. Footpaths are also closed on the west side of Enehagskolan around the Kärleken block in Värnamo.

The water is rising in Lagan and it is doing so right now in several watercourses in the county. Storån in Forsheda is also at risk of flooding and there, too, the pedestrian and cycle path on the south side will be closed. Värnamo municipality urges the public to be careful and to respect the barriers that will be set up.

Help from MSB

The municipality is now working on erecting barriers to protect buildings against the rising water. The municipality’s own materials are starting to run out, but today it is expected to receive more material from the Swedish Agency for Community Protection and Preparedness, MSB.

– We have to raise more barriers. This could be as bad as 2020, because it’s going to rain and rain now, says Antti Vähäkari, VA head Värnamo municipality to SVT.
