• LinkedIn had 900 million users in January, today it has 930 million
  • It is important to emphasize that this is not the number of active users per day or per month.
  • But anyway, it signals that the professional social network is attracting more and more people

The past few years have been a time of uncertainty for major social networks. The arrival of TikTok has indeed put platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat or YouTube in difficulty. However, targeting an entirely different audience, LinkedIn, doesn’t seem to be affected. Proof of this is that Microsoft’s professional social network continues to announce increases in its number of users. Recently, we learned that LinkedIn now has 930 million users, up from 900 million in January.

Significant growth, which the platform can be delighted with. But as our colleagues at Social Media Today point out, LinkedIn only reports the number of users and not the number of active users per month or per day. As a result, the figures should therefore be viewed with some caution. But regardless, this information signals that more and more people are using the professional social network. In addition, Microsoft mentions an increase in the engagement of these users.

The largest new user additions were recorded in India (4 million new users), the United States (3 million) and Brazil (2 million). It should also be noted that LinkedIn now has a large community in Europe. In all, there are more than 242 million users of the platform on the continent, more than the 224 million users in the United States, but less than the 261 million users in the Asia-Pacific region. Below is the latest map of LinkedIn users around the world, published by the platform.

LinkedIn: an evolving platform

Since it was bought by Microsoft for more than 26 billion dollars, the social network has continued to evolve. And currently, while the Redmond firm is relying heavily on generative artificial intelligence, LinkedIn is also benefiting from this technology. Like Bing or Microsoft Edge, the professional social network recently acquired new features based on ChatGP, the OpenAI chatbot.

For example, LinkedIn has relied on this AI to create a feature that allows users to improve their profiles. In essence, the artificial intelligence analyzes the information available on the profile and identifies the skills and experiences to highlight, then writes the text to put on the user’s profile. The latter then only has to check and edit the automatically generated content to have a better profile.

For recruiters, LinkedIn is also testing a feature that automatically writes job descriptions. “(…) when you’re ready to post a job, just provide some basic information, including the job title and company name. Our tool will then generate a suggested job description for you to review and edit, saving you time and effort while giving you the flexibility to customize it to your needs”explained Tomer Cohen, product manager of the social network, in April.

And of course, LinkedIn is also benefiting from the changes that the emergence of generative artificial intelligence has triggered in the job market. The platform offers a hundred courses allowing users to acquire new skills in AI. And that’s just the beginning. According to Cohen, LinkedIn is exploring “actively many promising opportunities to create unique value and innovation.”
