The governor of Catamarca, Raúl Jalil, and the presidents of YPF, Pablo González, and Y-TEC, Roberto Salvarezza, signed an agreement to create a manufacturing plant for cells, lithium-ion batteries, and active material in that province.

This is a necessary development that will put the country to compete in the manufacture of key inputs for all new technologies.

In August, YPF had signed an agreement with Camyen to develop the first joint lithium exploration project, which is carried out in an area of 20,000 hectares located in the Fiambalá area, in the department of Tinogasta.

Jalil also highlighted “the decision of Vice President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner to create Y-TEC 12 years ago for political independence”.

“Making a decision to be able to have independence and to be able to change the energy matrix and that Catamarca contribute to the country is essential.”

On the other hand, the president affirmed that “Catamarca has a provincial company that can associate with YPF, and generate projects like the one that is already being explored to have its first lithium plant and make this by-product and the batteries.”

Finally, the president stressed that “this will allow political independence and generate employment and technology. The great challenge is shortly to sign an agreement to generate 250 megabytes of solar energy.”

For his part, the president of Y-TEC highlighted the potential of Catamarca in the production of lithium batteries. “For us it is a very important fact and that a history that we have traveled has a path and in that history, Catamarca has been present at all times,” said Salvarezza.
