The excellent series The Mandalorian is suffering the full brunt of the Hollywood situation and we have just learned some sad news.
After a season 3 with great fanfare and a fairly epic battle, the ins and outs of which we will keep quiet so as not to get into the spoiler, the series The Mandalorian had everything needed for a radiant suite. Alas it was without counting the strike which is currently held in Hollywood. Indeed, at the beginning of May we could learn that the screenwriters’ union had recorded the failure of negotiations with the main studios on a rise in remuneration. It seems to affect everyone, even the big guys like Disney.
The Mandalorian is on an indefinite hiatus
Indeed, according to a new report by Deadline, the writers’ strike officially delays the production of the fourth season of The Mandalorian. The team of the series, which initially aimed for a start date of filming next September, seems indeed to be in a bad patch. Everything is on hiatus and for a long time to come. According to some estimates, the situation could worsen and continue until summer and possibly even until September 2023. All this obviously contradicts information from director Jon Favreau Jon himself who in February 2023 said that the scripts for season 4 of The Mandalorian had been completed. Sure, the scripts could be fine as is, but with the strike in place, the rest of the cast and crew wouldn’t have the creative freedom they usually have on set when the situation with the screenwriters is looking good.
Star Wars Andor 2 also in trouble?
For its part, the Andor series is also in trouble with season 2. This time it goes even further since its creator/director Tony Gilroy has officially stopped all work on the second season.
I halted all writing work on Andor before midnight on May 1st. After being briefed on the Saturday meeting, I informed Chris Keyser at the WGA on Sunday morning that I would also be ceasing all non-writing production duties.
In short, the screenwriters want better compensation and they seem to have decided to succeed. Besides Star Wars et Disney many projects like the series The Last of Us are on hiatus. In general, all the big companies in the industry like Netflix and Amazon are in turmoil. We obviously hope that the situation can be resolved quickly and that everyone can benefit from it. In the meantime, don’t expect season 4 of The Mandalorian pour 2024.
