The NFL season is going to start in Brazil

NEW YORK (AP) — The Packers de Green Bay se will measure against Philadelphia Eagles when the NFL will stage its first game of the season in Brazil on September 6.

The owner in Sao Paulo will mark the first time since 1970 that the NFL hosts a game on Friday night during the first weekend of the season.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell had anticipated in February that the Eagles will be the home team in the opening game. The league confirmed the Eagles’ opponent on Wednesday.

The Packers and Eagles will play at the Corinthians Arena, home of the Brazilian soccer club Corinthians. The venue hosted matches at the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games.

It will be the Packers’ second international game in the last three years. They left the United States in the regular season for the first time in 2022, when they lost 27-22 to the New York Giants at Tottenham Stadium in London.

The last time the NFL had a Friday night game on its opening weekend was September 18, 1970, when the Los Angeles Rams hosted the St. Louis Cardinals.
