– Uppsala seems to be a hub for crystal, for other drugs it is the opposite, says prosecutor Michael Ehrencrona

At the end of November last year, the Uppsala police raided a suspected drug deal outside a gym. A lot of eight kilos of crystal, worth 2.4 million kroner on the street, would change hands – from the Uppsala network to a courier from Stockholm.

A man and a woman, referred to by the prosecutor as the “Supplier” and “The Custodian”, were arrested the same day and have been detained ever since.

A month later, the man identified as the network’s leader was arrested, and on Monday the trial in Uppsala district court against the trio, who are suspected of serious drug crimes, will begin

“Biggest seizures we’ve made”

In addition to the crackdown outside the gym, police detectives filmed the trio allegedly handling and moving drugs.

In the clip above you can see the films.

In total, the suspects are about eleven kilos of crystal, two kilos of amphetamine and nine kilos of cannabis – drugs with a street value of close to five million kroner.

– It is very serious, one of the largest crystal seizures we have made. You are bordering on extremely serious drug crime, says Michael Ehrencrona.

Crystal was classified as a drug as recently as 2019 and two years ago the police stated that it was a bit of a drug Uppsala phenomenon – which seems to continue.

– It is to Uppsala that other groups in the country come to get their hands on crystal, says Michael Ehrencrona.

Can’t follow the money

The investigators have not determined how much money the suspects are said to have earned from the drug trade – nor where did they get the drugs from.

– We have not been able to see where the payments are made. It could have been done through cryptocurrency or two people meeting in the woods with a big bag of cash – we don’t know, says Michael Ehrencrona.

In addition to the trio, four people are suspected of involvement in the drug racket. All deny wrongdoing.
