FIFA sentenced Independiente to pay a million-dollar debt to Gastón Silva, a former player of the club. The footballer had arranged a payment plan with Fabián Doman but the now former president did not comply with it.

Now, the Red will have to pay the Uruguayan 1,650,000 dollars, plus interest on the debt.

The defender arrived in Avellaneda in 2017 from Torino in Italy, in the midst of a conflict with Pumas in Mexico. In 2020, Silva left Independiente due to non-payment.

In the event that Independiente does not pay in the next 45 days, it will be inhibited from incorporating players, something that is due to the debt with América de México. From Independiente they may appeal to the Sports Arbitration Court (TAS), but any appeal may only delay the mandatory payment dates.
