The Radeon 780M is the most powerful integrated GPU out there, gaming tested at 1080p

The Radeon 780M is without a doubt the integrated GPU most advanced on the market, providing a solution capable of running numerous current games at 1080p with remarkably satisfactory visual quality.

To unravel the true capabilities of this GPU, RandomGaminginHD analyzed its performance when pitted against highly demanding games. The results obtained exceed expectations. The test equipment selected for this task is a Minisforum UM790 Pro, equipped with a Ryzen 9 7940HS APU and 16 GB DDR5 memory which operates at 5,600 MHz in dual channel configuration.

All tests have been performed at 1080p resolution. Valorant, at its highest quality, operates at an average of 199 FPS, and Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 in basic quality and FSR in quality mode, goes up to 85 FPS. In the game The Witcher 3 Next-Gen with medium quality settings and FSR in medium mode, reaches an average of 48 FPS. While Grand Theft Auto V on medium-high quality settings achieves 95 FPS.

In Fortnite in medium quality it works at 86 FPS and Cyberpunk reaches 60 FPS with low quality and FSR in quality mode. Forza Horizon 5 on high quality maintains an average of 64 FPS. Red Dead Redemption 2 with textures set to ultra, TAA set to medium, and the rest set to low, runs at an average of 47 FPS, a number that could be slightly improved with FSR. Apex Legends reaches 99 FPS with medium textures, TSAA and low quality. Finally, Minecraft RTX in Fancy mode with ray tracing on, achieves an average of 20 FPS.

The Radeon 780M performs very well, and even outperforms dedicated graphics cards, being very, very close to the GTX 1650M.

Radeon 680M vs 790M

If you compare the Radeon 680M and the Radeon 780M, the performance margins are not significant. The latest model seems to benefit more from an increase in frequency and its processor in what is CPU than from an advance in the architecture itself. When looking at the Radeon 780M and 680M, the maximum difference in performance is a modest 10%. This suggests that the impact of the RDNA3 architecture in this context is low. and that AMD could have simply chosen to raise clock rates and transition to the 4nm node to maintain thermal efficiency and power levels.
