The “search and rescue” operation of the Titan submersible is “incredibly complex”, the United States Coast Guard has influenced in its last press conference to report on the situation. The team is working “tirelessly” said captain Jamie Frederick, who explained that it is looking for “an area twice the size of Connecticut” and at a depth of up to two and a half miles (about four kilometers).

The search continues in the area where they were detected underwater noises, although the captain of the United States Coast Guard admits that “we don’t know” what they belong to. “The good news, what I can tell you, is that we are looking in the area where they were detected and we will continue to do so,” he said.

The first blows were detected on Tuesday by a Canadian P-3 aircraft. This Wednesday also “some noises have been heard”.

Every piece of information is being analyzed. The data collected by the Canadian P-3 aircraft have been shared with US Navy experts for further analysis “that will be considered in future search plans“.

The expert Carl Hartsfield has explained that it is very difficult to know the origin of these sounds, since the ocean is a “complex and noisy place”. And he has explained that the team working on the search has “multiple sensors in the area that carry the data (…) and feed it back to the team so they can make decisions.” The objective is “eliminate possible man-made sources other than the Titan”.

More teams on the way

More equipment will arrive in the area in the next few hours. Currently there “five surface assets searching” and there will be “a total of 10 in the next 24 and 48 hours”.

On the other hand, the US Coast Guard captain has explained that the team is in close contact with the relatives of the five crew members on board the lost submersible.

Regarding the food and drink available to the crew, the captain of the US coast guard has stated: “I cannot tell you exactly how much do they have on board, but do they have some limited rations on board“.

Captain Jamie Frederick Dece that “we must remain optimistic and hopeful” while the team “There are many factors to consider. Next, sometimes you find yourself in a position where you have to make a difficult decision. We are not at that point yet”, he assured. And he added: “If we continue looking, we could potentially get to it… That is a discussion that we will have with the families long before I discuss it here publicly.”

the submersible she made the dive on Sunday and her support vessel lost contact with her approximately one hour and 45 minutes later, according to the US Coast Guard. The Titan was about 700 kilometers south of St. John’s, Newfoundland, according to Canada’s Joint Rescue Coordination Center in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

The Titan was launched from an icebreaker that was hired by OceanGate, the company responsible for the trip, and it was not the first time it had made tourist trips to the wreck of the Titanic in the North Atlantic.
