The social network X officially authorizes pornographic content

NEW YORK– The social network

Content of this type has existed on Twitter for years and – unlike Facebook or Instagram – it was never explicitly prohibited.

The new rule, first reported on Monday by the specialized media Tech Crunch, explicitly allows users to share adult content “as long as it is produced and distributed consensually.”

“Sexual expression, visual or written, can be a legitimate form of artistic expression,” the social network points out in its new rules.

Accounts that regularly post sexual content should mark the images as sensitive content.

These types of materials will be prohibited for users identified as minors or adults who prefer not to receive them.

The new policy covers images generated by artificial intelligence, animations, cartoons or Japanese manga.

Until this Monday, the social network had never formally banned erotic or pornographic videos or photos on its site, but it had not officially authorized them either.

It had banned, as of January 1, 2020, images that included “violent sexual conduct.”

Photos and videos that “display naked adults or sexual acts of a pornographic nature or that may cause sexual arousal” are now clearly authorized, according to the X site.

Facebook, Instagram or Snapchat have strong restrictions on this content.

Since taking control of the company in 2022, millionaire Elon Musk has sought to turn the social network into a space for free expression, even reducing content moderation.
