At the last “Notte delle Stelle” three years ago, the shadows of the emerging pandemic were already clearly over the Italian film night. Shortly thereafter, social life ended with the first lockdown for the time being. But the “Night of the Stars”, the gala with the award ceremony, survived. On Friday, its inventor Massimo Mannozzi will be back on the floor in a slightly smaller format with 300 guests from the Hotel Palace.

The Berlin actor Winfried Glatzeder is one of the four winners of the “Premio Bacco” this year. The Italian Ambassador Armando Varrichio, a native of Venice and a self-confessed film fan, has assumed the patronage.

Dancing is allowed again, this time with the Orchestra Luciano Nelli and Paola Belloni. There will also be a cheerleading show, and moderator Harald Pignatelli will be leading the evening.

For many years, Massimo Mannozzi managed the well-known Italian fine restaurant “Bacco” on Marburger Straße in Charlottenburg, from whose regular customer base numerous gala guests were recruited. The legendary eatery, opened in 1968, closed in 2016.

The Hotel Palace on Budapester Strasse is not far from the former “Bacco”, so Mannozzi is almost returning to his old place of work with the new start. The “Bacco” was a popular destination for Italian actors, especially at the time when the Berlinale was still limited to West Berlin. His son Alessandro, in turn, is the owner of the “Bocca di Bacco” in Friedrichstrasse, which is also popular with film stars.

This film night was first held 30 years ago, and the jury for the award consists of Italian film critics. Among the winners were Claudia Cardinale, Sophia Loren, Iris Berben, Mario Adorf, Bruno Ganz, Wim Wenders, Volker Schlöndorff and Armin Müller-Stahl.
