The difficult economic situation with high inflation, rising interest rates and increased costs has affected the lease negotiations.
In some places in Västra Götaland, several municipal housing companies have demanded more than nine percent in rent increases. At the other end, Tjörns Bostad stood out with a requirement of 3.8 percent.
“Still very tough”
Magnus Elsing is head of negotiations at the Tenants’ Association in the BohusÄlvsborg-Skaraborg region. With most negotiations completed, the average in that region is 4.2 percent in rent increases.
– It is still very tough for the tenants to cope with the rent increase, says Magnus Elsing.
Gilda Romero is press secretary at the Tenants Association. She confirms that the rent increases are the highest in 30 years.
– This applies to the whole country, she says.
