Berlin commuters face a difficult Friday. The railway and transport union (EVG) wants to strike Deutsche Bahn between 3 a.m. on Friday morning and 11 a.m. in the morning. Climate activists have also announced massive blockade actions on the streets for Friday. So if you switch from the regional train to the car, you will probably be stuck in traffic. Deutsche Bahn assumes that the S-Bahn will also be on strike between 3 a.m. and 11 a.m.

The BVG is again available to save the situation, the state-owned Berlin company is not on strike. The BER airport is not affected either, the Verdi union only wants to strike at the three west German airports in Düsseldorf, Hamburg and Cologne/Bonn.

Nationwide, around 50 other transport companies are affected in addition to the railways. “We must increase the pressure on employers who believe they can ignore the demands of their employees and instead want to engage in squire-style collective bargaining,” the EVG said. With the time limit until 11 a.m., the EVG wants to show “that we don’t want to meet the passengers, but the companies”.

It was not until the end of March that traffic with trains, buses and planes in Berlin largely came to a standstill as a result of a large nationwide warning strike. Millions of commuters and travelers as well as freight traffic were affected by the 24-hour industrial dispute.
