Mexico City.- The United States on Tuesday imposed sanctions on a son of former Mexican drug lord Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, according to the Treasury Department website.

The sanctions against Joaquín Guzmán López, which also target three other Mexican citizens and two entities in the country, are known after the Department of Justice accused three of “El Chapo’s” sons of directing a fentanyl trafficking operation.

“Today, the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the United States Department of the Treasury sanctioned Joaquín Guzmán López -son of ‘El Chapo’,” the statement said.

“Those sanctioned today are part of a Sinaloa Cartel network supervised by Los Chapitos and responsible for a significant portion of the illicit trafficking of fentanyl and other deadly drugs into the United States.”
