the CSU is in campaign mode. After the New Year’s retreat of the state parliamentary group, the next appointments will follow for the Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder. With pithy words and big announcements, Söder is heating up his party friends there. The goal: another term. Gladly again with the free voters, as he explained at the New Year’s retreat. Definitely not with the Greens.

At the New Year’s reception of the CSU Rhön-Grabenfeld, the Bavarian Prime Minister hit the drum. On the subject of energy security, he announced that he would not shy away from the possibility that a Green politician could burst into tears.

Söder wants to work for longer nuclear lifetimes

The politician in question is Minister of State for Culture Claudia Roth. Söder promises his party friends in his speech, parts of which he published on Instagram:

“Everyone else we beg for energy, which we then have to pay very dearly for. Only because, ladies and gentlemen, we believe we can change something in our own country for ideological reasons. I know that if nuclear energy is extended, then it will be cries Claudia Roth. But I would be willing to put up with it for the security of Germany. You have to do what is necessary.”

There was thunderous applause for this announcement. Söder had already etched against the Greens on the nuclear issue last year. And right after Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) gave his word on the nuclear issue. At that time it was about the stretching operation of the three remaining German nuclear reactors.

The Prime Minister explained in 2022: “The traffic light accepts further increases in electricity prices. This coalition is a risk for Germany as a business location. The green have enforced their ideology and the FDP promised too much again.”

Nuclear debate could flare up again

Söder is not the first politician to try to start the nuclear debate again in the new year. FDP General Secretary Bijan Djir-Sarai also recently spoke in an interview with the “Swabian newspaper‘ voiced accordingly. He made it clear there that the assessment had to be free of ideology and open to technology. And even introduced the controversial method of fracking.

After the big nuclear power debate last year, things should continue in 2023. The actual plan is that the three remaining reactors will finally be taken off the grid by spring. It remains to be seen whether that will really happen – and whether the chancellor will need a word of power again in the end.

At the New Year’s reception of the CSU Rhön-Grabenfeld, Söder at least convinced his party friends. As a farewell, the Prime Minister is even given a “Captain Future” cup as a gift.

The local association has obviously met the taste of the party chairman. Visibly pleased, Söder presents its new ceramics in its Instagram story.
