Mexico City.- The Megalopolis Environmental Commission (CAMe) reported that phase 1 of the environmental contingency was activated in the Valley of Mexico.

With a cutoff at 11:00 a.m. this Sunday, an average 24-hour value of 103.6 micrograms per cubic meter of PM 2.5 particles was recorded, detailed the CAMe.

“During last night (December 31) and early today (January 1) there were extraordinary emissions generated mainly by the massive burning of fireworks and bonfires,” he explained.

The municipalities in which the activation of the contingency is contemplated are the capital city halls of Iztapalapa, Milpa Alta, Tláhuac, Xochimilco and the Mexican municipalities of Amecameca, Atlautla, Ayapango, Chalco, Cocotitlán, Ecatzingo, Juchitepec, Ozumba, Temamatla, Tenango del Aire, Tepetlixpa, Tlalmanalco and Valle de Chalco Solidarity.

As part of the contingency measures, industrial activities were limited to 40 percent of combustion equipment and activities related to concrete companies and ceramic brick firing and foundry were suspended.

The construction, remodeling, demolition and movement of earth is suspended, except for sanitary landfills.

The Government suspended, for its part, maintenance activities on urban public infrastructure.

A new report will be issued at 3:00 p.m. to update the information according to weather conditions.
