Chihuahua authorities reported the arrest of the alleged perpetrator of the murder of activist Cruz Soto Caraveo, who was identified as Luis Enrique MG, alias “La Chulina.”

The State Public Security Secretariat (SSPE) reported that the subject was detained along with three other individuals named Obiel AM, “El Bombón”; Gilberto AV “Yojan” and Juan José CL, alias “Moreno”.

At the time of the arrest, an arsenal for the exclusive use of the Army, tactical equipment, cash, drugs and a vehicle with a report of theft were confiscated.

The operation was carried out in the town of Bahuichivo, Municipality of Urique, in the Sierra Tarahumara.

“By securing and tracking the information of the detainees, the Secretary of Public Security confirmed that Luis Enrique MG, alias “La Chulina”, is indicated as the probable material author of the murder of the activist Cruz Soto Caraveo, deprived of his liberty on October 13, 2019 and found lifeless on October 20 of the same year,” the state agency reported.

He explained that “La Chulina” has issued an arrest warrant against him for the crime of forced disappearance, for which he was immediately secured by the police.

The detainees were seized with 4 short arms, Pietro Beretta brand, .9 mm caliber and a 17-shot Glock 34Gen4 9 mm caliber charger, as well as a 16-shot charger; Ruger .22 caliber and a magazine with 01 shot; Belgian caliber .380; 1 Sub-machine gun, PTR caliber .9×19 mm and a magazine with 25 shots.

Also 3 long weapons: VSKA century arms 7.62×39 mm caliber and a 30-shot magazine, VSKA century arms 7.62×39 mm caliber and a 30-shot magazine and Romarm/Cugir 7.62×39 mm caliber and a 30-shot magazine.

In addition to a 5.56mm caliber m249s machine gun and a charger with 188 shots.

The SSPE announced that they had secured 19 chargers; 5 plastic 7.62×39 caliber chargers supplied with 30 shots each; 13 7.62×39 caliber metal magazines stocked with 30 shots each and one .9x19mm caliber plastic magazine stocked with 21 shots, as well as another .9x19mm caliber metal magazine stocked with 20 shots.

The corporation reported that 100 bulk shots of 7.62×39 caliber were also seized, as well as 3 magazine holders without metal plates.

Regarding cash, 10,000 pesos were in a plastic bag and another 78,000 pesos in another.

Drugs, they seized 4 plastic bags with 75 servings of cocaine and another bag with approximately 500 grams of marijuana, in addition to 100 beer trays with 24 cans of 355 ml each.

The SSPE recalled that on October 13, 2019, the social activist Cruz Soto Caraveo was kidnapped by armed individuals when he was leaving a meeting, held in the town of Témoris, with personnel from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of the Federal Government and On October 20 of that same year, his body was located.

The crime against Soto Caraveo, a member of the group of families forcibly displaced from the Sierra Tarahumara, was attributed to the criminal group headed by the now extinct José Noriel Portillo Gil, alias “El Chueco”, found shot to death last March in the municipality from Choix, Sinaloa.
