Mexico City.- The legal defense of Emilio Lozoya Austin, former CEO of Pemex, assured that the federal company has already accepted a payment of 10 million 736 thousand 351 dollars as reparation for the damage in the trials for the Odebrecht and Agronitrogenados cases.

In a statement, the lawyers Alejandro Rojas and Miguel Ontiveros explained that the amount was accepted by the current director of Pemex, Octavio Romero Oropeza, even though he is publicly against it.

“It is important to highlight that the amount of reparation for the damage was approved – unanimously – by the Board of Directors of PEMEX, with Mr. Romero Oropeza acting as Director General of that institution. That is, the company he heads has already approved and presented, before the corresponding court, the final sum for damage reparation,” it was written.

“It is important to specify that the amount of reparation for the damage, which in both cases amounts to 10,736,351.7 million dollars, has already been claimed by the institutions of the Government of the Republic -formally and in writing-, before the jurisdictional body belonging to the Federation Court”.

Last April, the legal defense revealed that it was outlining a reparation agreement for Lozoya Austin to leave the North Prison and, also, to cancel the arrest warrants against his relatives.

“This defense requested that the reparation agreement and the criteria of opportunity be carried out, through an agreement, setting as a condition that the amount indicated by the institutions of 10.7 million dollars be maintained,” said lawyer Miguel Ontiveros.

“And as a second condition, that the people who benefit from the agreements and the agreement, within the framework of the opportunity criteria, are Emilio Lozoya and the three women in the family: his mother, his sister and his wife.”

However, President López Obrador commented in a conference that the amount offered seemed little to him.

– “Well, the officials have to see that, but 10 million is very little for me. It’s that 100 million (dollars) are 200 million pesos. How much did you give to the legislators? (in bribes for the energy reform) It was much more than that. Where did the money come from?” he said.

“All of this helps, saying: ‘I already returned the money, so let him continue his trial in freedom. But if they don’t return the money and they’re just going to say ‘it was Peña Nieto’, well no.”

Likewise, last week Romero Oropeza told the newspaper “Periódico al Aire” that the amount to repair the damage had not yet been defined.
