“Before the suspension of classes, we had already addressed the issue in the Technical Council that we have every end of the month, they had talked about the pandemic and what could happen if classes were not suspended, but even so we were surprised that they sent us home”, indicated
The first indication was to suspend classes for about a month, while the health authorities controlled the disease. However the Covid-19 arrived not to be controlled and quickly expanded throughout the country, for which the Ministry of Public Education (SEP) decided to suspend the 2019-2020 school year, until further notice.
Months later, classes were resumed remotely, despite the fact that the country’s public education system was not prepared to carry out a transition like this, which meant a great challenge for students, but also for teachers. who have been used all their lives to give classes in front of the student group.
“At the beginning it was very complicated, because the kids use their cell phones anyway, they know how to access the internet and they had knowledge of the computer, but some teachers had never used the internet as a tool, others didn’t even have a computer and had to buy one, in addition to the investment that it meant to have to adapt our classes to an online model”, he mentioned.
The return to the classroom
Once they adapted to this model of education and the vaccines against Covid-19 began to be applied, both students and teachers They returned to the classroom for the 2021-2022 academic yearyes, taking extreme precautionary measures because the pandemic still represented a risk to public health.
Staggered classes, divided schedules, healthy distance, constant disinfection, classroom cleaning, mandatory use of face masks and sometimes even a face mask, were some of the recommendations issued by the educational authorities to make way for the return to schools.
“I think that in the years that I have been a teacher, which is almost 10, it is the most difficult thing I have had to face, at school they teach you to face and solve student problems, in addition to helping them with their education, but Nobody was prepared for this,” he said.
