Mexico City.- The film Avatar: El Camino del Agua is being accused of what is being called through twitter for a boycott of not seeing the film.

The artist Yuè Begay, of Navajo origin, has written an open letter for the public to support her cause. On her Twitter account, she has expressed the following: “DO NOT watch Avatar: El Camino Del Agua. Join Native Americans and other indigenous groups around the world in boycotting this horrible and racist film.”

Yué assures that James Cameron appropriated their culture to make the film and that he seeks to be the savior. He also criticized the fact that the indigenous people were not the ones to play those roles.

“They appropriated our cultures in noxious ways to satisfy a white man’s savior complex,” he added.

“This is unacceptable! Blacks and indigenous people are more than enough to play aliens based on us. It should have been us whose faces and voices appeared on the screen. We are experts at portraying our pain, suffering and what is most importantly, our resilience,” he wrote.

These posts have more than 3 thousand likes and people supporting this position. So far James Cameron has not ruled on the matter.

“Avatar: El Camino Del Agua” accumulated 435 million dollars in its first week, this being the third largest premiere in times of pandemic.
