After a criminal complaint filed by legal representatives of the local energy distributor, Edelap, the court notified the charge of the crime of energy theft to the owners of at least five City Bell businesses located 14C and 473; Cantilo and Diagonal 3; 473 and 14C; 472 and 13C, and 14C and 473.
From Edelap they indicated that said stores of recognized brands located in City Bell “had been detected stealing energy in an operation carried out by the Company in mid-September, within the framework of the anti-fraud actions that it carries out to identify and dismantle illegal connections that affect the quality of the service received by other users.In all cases, the existence of the theft of energy was proven by means of a notary public and police certificate, and the respective criminal complaints were filed against both the owners and possible suppliers of this type of criminal maneuvers”.
“The owners of the accused premises must now face the judicial process for the crime of energy theft, punishable by imprisonment of up to 6 years. It is a crime that puts the life of those who manipulate the facilities and third parties at risk, harming in addition to the quality of the electrical service,” they added.
On the other hand, the defendants must face the payment of the energy consumed illegally, as well as the corresponding penalties as established in the Regulation of Supply and Connection.
