The restart of the flights regular direct between Havana y Moscow this July 1st it was confirmed by the Chancellery of Russiaaccording to the Cuban official platform.

The Russian spokeswoman, María Zajárova, assured this Wednesday on the official platform Cubadebate that on the first day of July, regular direct flights to Cuba will be operated by the Russian airline Rossiya, the subsidiary of Aeroflot.

He also said that this decision will “give new impetus” to bilateral ties, in addition to helping to restore the tourist flow of Russian citizens to the island.

Zajárova also stressed that Russia is working “to expand international passenger air transport” despite the difficulties that arose as a result of the sanctions imposed by Western countries, after the start of the invasion of Ukraine.

Direct flights between Cuba and Russia were canceled in March 2022, following the sanctions imposed on Moscow for its war against Ukraine.

However, in mid-June, it was learned that the airline Conviasa inaugurated a new air route between Caracas, Havana and Moscowafter agreement with Aeroflot.

The Venezuelan state-owned company and the Russian company signed a memorandum of understanding this month to expand air services between Russia and the Caribbean, with the intention of jointly developing air transport between the aforementioned capitals, according to announcement de Aeroflot.

The note also refers that as of June 18, Conviasa began regular flights Caracas-Havana-Moscow, while as of July 1, Aeroflot will start regular flights to the Cuban city of Varadero.

The two airlines also plan to include an “interline” agreement, with direct settlement between the companies, through which passengers with tickets issued by both Aeroflot and Conviasa will be able to travel to Cuba and Venezuela.

In addition, they are working to conclude a joint operation of flights agreement, which means that the flights will be operated under a common code and passengers will be able to benefit from the bonus programs of both airlines.

This collaboration agreement between the two airlines was signed last Friday by the general director of Aeroflot, Sergei Alexandrovski, and the president of Conviasa and Minister of Transportation of Venezuela, Ramón Celestino Velásquez Araguayán, during the third day of the XXVI International Economic Forum ( SPIEF in Saint Petersburg.

At the end of May, Conviasa announced the start of flights in the route between Caracas and Moscowwith a stopover in Havana, with a frequency of one flight per weekin addition to doubling its offer between the Venezuelan and Russian capitals, which was biweekly.

The flights between the three countries contemplate the Vnukovo airports in Moscow, the José Martí airport in Havana, and the Simón Bolívar airport in Caracas.

the state Conviasa has been frequently used by the ruler Miguel Díaz-Canel and his entourage to make long trips.

It also offers regular flights for Cuban tourists traveling to Nicaragua, Venezuela or St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

The scale of the Caracas-Moscow route seeks to reactivate on the island the tourism from Russiawhich aspires to become the main issuer of visitors to the country.

Since October 2022, Russia and Cuba resumed direct flights towards the tourist poles of Varadero and Cayo Coco, after the pause imposed by the coronavirus crisis and then by the war with Ukraine.

However, this year they have restored air connections in a big way. the russian airline Aeroflot will restart on July 1 the route from Moscow to the Cuban resort of Varadero, with an initial frequency of two weekly flights.

The arrangement of resume flights towards Varadero responds to a presidential order, Russian executives explained, and contributes to the Cuban government’s interest in recovering one of the main sources of tourists to the island, which is going through a serious economic crisis from which tourism is not escaping.
