They denounce 'El Hormiguero' for covert advertising

A few dates ago Maluma landed in the anthill to present his latest musical work, Little crazy, a song that is included in his new record project. However, Pablo Motos’ interview with the Colombian artist left a detailwhich went unnoticed during the live show, but which has reached the hands of the National Commission of Markets and Competition (CNMC) as a result of the complaint that FACUA- Consumers in Action has filed against the producer of the Antena 3 program, 7yacción.

The reason for the lawsuit is because Pablo Motos put on the table a bottle of mezcal, a Mexican alcoholic beverage, belonging to the brand Backlighting, in which Maluma has been an investor for years. The artist and the presenter toasted live before the watchful eye of the bottle, which “appeared for several minutes in the foreground” while they talked about the properties of this drink, as stated in the Facua statement. “You’ve gotten stronger than your mezcal”, Motos pointed out, to which Maluma replied: “Yes? Well, then he is strong.

“An illegal practice”

The non-profit organization has denounced the producer of the program for covert advertising of an alcoholic beverage, with 36% alcohol content, in a space that is broadcast during prime time and suitable for all types of audiences. Thus, FACUA points out that it is an “illicit practice” and is covered by the General Advertising Lawwhich prohibits “the audiovisual commercial communication of alcoholic beverages with a level higher than twenty degrees, except when it is broadcast between 1:00 and 5:00 hours.”

The complainant points out that the program was aware of this prohibition, since Pablo Motos changed the orientation of the bottle to avoid the problem. “I’m going to turn it around in case they are going to scold us.” FACUA asks the CNMCwho has the power to sanction for this type of event, to “investigate the events that occurred in the broadcast of El Hormiguero on June 26 and impose the corresponding sanction on its producer for covert advertising.”
