They detain eleven migrants who disembarked on the northwest coast of Puerto Rico

San Juan.- Eleven migrants were detained this Sunday after arriving in a homemade boat in the Punta Borinquen sector of Aguadilla, in northwestern Puerto Rico.

The detainees are all men of undefined immigration status, who were turned over to Border Patrol agents in good health.

The Maritime Unit of the United Rapid Action Forces of Aguadilla was in charge of intercepting the vessel, 25 feet (7.6 meters) in length, according to the police statement.

Border Patrol agents continue to search the entire coastline for other migrants who were likely on the boat.

The Mona Channel, which separates the Dominican Republic from Puerto Rico, is a common immigration route where boats loaded with migrants are frequently intercepted.

From October 1, 2022 to June 30, 2023, the Coast Guard has detained 1,680 migrants in Puerto Rican waters, of which 1,353 were Dominicans.
