Hours away from the Christmas and New Year celebrations, the Municipality of La Plata reinforced the operations to control the sale of fireworks, in order to verify that it is legal and has the corresponding security measures. Besides, the clandestine sales stalls began to rise on public roads.
The procedures, which intensified in recent days, extend from this Saturday until the first days of January.
Through them, agents of the Undersecretariat for Coexistence and Citizen Control, in conjunction with the explosives area of the Police, supervise and corroborate that the businesses authorized to sell explosives have the corresponding authorization and operate in the legal framework for the sale of fireworks.
“We have arranged a series of controls on the ten points authorized for the sale of fireworks in the Party. The operation included a meticulous inspection of the items that are sold to the public, while advice was provided on the scope of the activity,” explained municipal authorities.
In this sense, it is important to remember that currently In La Plata, the sale of explosive devices that exceed three inches is not allowedin accordance with the provisions of the National Law on Weapons and Explosives 20,429, regulatory decree 302/83.
In a complementary way, the operations against the street sale of fireworks, which is prohibited by national legislation, were also intensified.
“We deploy crews and mobiles that are touring the different neighborhoods of the city, drawing up acts of contravention and proceeding to the kidnapping of all clandestine elements, which, since they are not authorized, represent a risk for our neighbors,” they emphasized from the Commune.
It should be noted that permitted explosives are those whose sale is authorized by the National Agency for Controlled Materials. In this sense, the Municipality issued permits only for those premises approved by the aforementioned national body. “Products sold on the public highway do not meet the relevant requirements and are seized and destroyed,” he insisted.
In this regard, coordinated work was articulated together with professionals from the Police explosives area, who ordered the implementation of a truck prepared to house the elements that are seized. Once confiscated, and with the proper authorization of the Misdemeanor Court, they will be destroyed.
Lastly, it was reported that authorized businesses that do not comply with the necessary regulations or conditions of sale will be closed; while the stalls installed on the public highway will be lifted, sequestering all the merchandise.
“NO TO PYROTECHNICS”
The Municipality of La Plata launched this year the “Ponete la 10” program, a awareness campaign that urges residents to celebrate responsibly and not use fireworks.
In this sense, they asked “to be aware of the damage that the use of fireworks can cause” and argued that “the noises cause negative effects on people, animals and the environment.”
In this regard, they detailed that the sound and explosions of fireworks affect people with Autism, Asperger, Alzheimer’s, Down Syndrome and cognitive or neurological disabilities as well as animals, causing accidents and injuries; while the residues released when burning it highly pollute the environment.
