DONNA, Texas – The timely intervention of Donna High School security personnel allowed the confiscation of a weapon in the possession of one of the students on Tuesday while he was detained.
At approximately 3 pm local time, a school security guard was monitoring the campus when he observed a vehicle entering the parking lot without proper authorization, according to a statement from the authorities.
Security contacted the students in the vehicle and informed Administration and the Campus Police Department.
After a search of the students, the officers discovered that one of them had a weapon in his possession, which was confiscated while he was immediately detained.
“Precautionary measures were taken to ensure that students and staff were safe at all times,” a statement quoted. “We are doing additional monitoring and further increasing security measures during this investigation. All students and staff are safe and there is no threat at this time.”
Donna ISD has taken multiple security measures including additional law enforcement personnel, training, and surveillance to ensure any threats are actively monitored.
“The safety of our students and staff is our top priority. Our team responded quickly and immediately addressed this potential threat,” the statement said.
