the police of Mainein the United States, found four corpses in a house prior to registering, moments later, a shooting on a local highway.
While the investigation is still ongoing, authorities believe that both incidents are related. In any case, they have not yet been able to determine the causes of any of them or the weapons used in the episodes.
The shots took place in the crowded interstate highway 295in Yarmouthwhile the bodies were found in a house located about 40 kilometers from there, in the town of Bodwoin.
“State police responded to an address in Bowdoin where they found four people deceased inside the home,” Maine State Police Lt. Randall Keaten said, adding: “From there, pShortly after 10:30 we had reports of several vehicles being hit by gunfire.”.
Following the shooting, three people were injured -one of them in serious condition- and there a detainee. However, the authorities limited themselves to providing details about the suspicious and they referred to him as “person of interest”
Over the bodiesno information was offered either and it was only mentioned that they were transferred to the medical examiner’s office for examination.
According to witnesses, police showed up at the scene with rifles and inspected one of the abandoned vehicles – a gray Buick – which had apparent bullet holes in the windshield.
The episode forced a road closure while the situation was brought under control and a search was underway, state police spokeswoman Shannon Moss said. Representatives for the Maine Department of Transportation added that the south side of I-295 remained closed through the late morning.
Likewise, at first they asked the neighbors from the area take refuge in their homes although, later, they assured that there was no risk in the area and the order was lifted.
Leonora Felker, a worker at the Rosemont Market and Bakery near the freeway, said she sensed something was up when she saw people start to approach saying the road was closed, and then dozens of security officers showed up.
He added that the officers entered the shops asking if they had seen “someone who was wet and muddy running away” although he assured that he did not see “nothing out of the ordinary.”
Yarmouth is a community with about 9,000 inhabitants located about 20 kilometers north of Portland, the largest city in the state, and it is coincidentally I-295 that connects it with the capital Augusta.
The episode occurred at a time when the United States records daily shootings in different parts of the country, which further opens the crack for the possession of weapons. While a vast sector approves it, another large group opposes it and argues that the current law allows these types of episodes to occur so frequently.
