A member of the National Gendarmerie who belonged to Squadron 57 Section Alvear died after being kidnapped and tortured. The victim was identified as Jorge Burquet (45), who was attacked on Saturday night when he was returning to the stable that he rented, on the outskirts of that town.

The case would be linked to horse racing and clandestine betting.

Burquet (45), with the rank of sergeant, was attacked by hooded men who kidnapped him, tied him up, stabbed and shot him. He had to be transferred to the San Juan Bautista de Santo Tomé University Hospital, where he ceased to exist due to the injuries he sustained.

At this time, the causes of the homicide are being investigated, but the main hypothesis is that the uniformed man had racehorses, and was also engaged in clandestine racing.

At the time of the incident, the gendarme was with an employee who was helping him with his tasks, who recounted what had happened and asked the Gendarmerie detachment located some 2,000 meters from the scene for help.

The members of the force were present almost immediately and were able to rescue Burquet and take him to the hospital, who was taken to Santo Tomé, where he died around midnight. They could not catch the criminals, who fled.

Before dying, the gendarme gave clues as to who would be after his death, mentioning a subject named Klug de Alvear, who was arrested moments later by the Corrientes Police.

On Sunday morning, under the orders of the Santo Tomé public prosecutor, the Prosecutor’s Office team, members of the Corrientes Police, and with the collaboration of members of the National Gendarmerie worked at the place, where evidence was collected.

The victim was on leave from the force.

On Sunday at noon the Police carried out raids in Alvear in search of clues that lead to finding more possible perpetrators. The cause was labeled as aggravated homicide by the premeditated contest of two or more people and the use of firearms.
