The Buenos Aires Undersecretary of Water Resources today issued a “red” alert for the presence of cyanobacteria that governs the town of Quilmes and the Canal access to the Port in Ensenada, and maintains the orange level for spas of the Río de la Plata and lagoons of the Buenos Aires province.

“The red alert level means high risk and is issued when the water looks like a dark green, brownish or reddish mass, with the appearance of thick cream,” reported the Inter-Institutional Cyanobacteria Table.

Given the increase in the bloom of this type of algae, the water should not be used “for direct consumption or for personal hygiene”, and it is recommended to keep children and pets away until the bloom disappears and not eat food that comes from the Río de the Silver.

These are bacteria that are growing in large numbers due to high temperatures and drought, and the health flag is used to alert bathers, although the Early Warning System for Cyanobacteria can also be consulted.

There, you can see through the Ciano Semaphore the state of the same on the coast of the Río de La Plata and Buenos Aires lagoons.

Similarly, the “orange” alert level was updated for the Río de la Plata spas and lagoons in the province of Buenos Aires, which indicates that the levels of cyanobacteria are of medium risk, which is why the water looks a different color. bright green on surface and in sand, but not in a continuous layer.

In this sense, “it is recommended to avoid contact with green stains, wash with clean water in case of entering the river or lagoon,” it was indicated.

The most affected points located on the coast of the Río de La Plata are the towns of Avellaneda, Quilmes, Berazategui: Balneario de Hudson.

Meanwhile, in the town of Ensenada, the “orange” level is maintained in the La Pérgola, Mirador Costero, Parador II, and Club Regatas spas.

In the coastal area of the municipality of Berisso, the presence of these organisms can be seen in the Delta, Palo Blanco, Balneario Municipal, La Balandra, and in the town of Magdalena (Balneario Magdalena and Balneario Atalaya).

Finally, it was reported that the orange alert is maintained due to the presence of cyanobacteria in the Gómez Lagoon (Lincoln Bridge) located in the Junín district; Laguna de Lobos, from that district; as well as in the Chis Chis Lagoon, La Tablilla and Las Barrancas, mirrors of water in the Salado river basin, in the center-north of the province of Buenos Aires.
