A Cuban resident in Miami has asked her compatriots for help to raise funds to help her mother, who has just lost everything in the fire that occurred on Monday in the building where he lived in the Florida city.

Ivette Leyva Martínez opened an account on the platform GoFundMe to raise money for his mother, Martha Martinezone of those affected in the incident that occurred at the Temple Court residential complex, at 431 NW 3rd Street.

After 20 years in Miami, at 76 years old and with several health problems, my mother is once again a refugee and will have to start over,” Ivette explained.

The lady lost all her possessions in the fire, which also has left other low-income seniors helpless.

According to Ivette, the incident was intentionally set and is considered the most devastating residential fire in recent decades in Miami.

“I turn to the wide network of friends for their support after this tragic event. Any help is welcome. Thank you in advance,” he concluded.

More than 40 residents of the four-story Miami apartment building that caught fire on Monday were displaced from their homes. Many moved to relatives’ homes and others had to seek shelter.

Local 10 witnessed the transportation of several residents, mostly over 60 years old, on Miami streetcars. Some went with their pets.

In the extinguishing efforts, firefighters found a gunshot wound at the entrance of the property, who was taken in critical condition to a hospital. He was later identified as an employee of Atlantic Housing Management, the company that manages the apartments.
