Saltillo, Mexico.- Two days after the start of the pre-campaigns, members of Morena in Coahuila seek to skip the poll method to define a candidate for Governor.

While Armando Guadiana, winner of the survey, would start the pre-campaign for the Governorship alone this Saturday, two members of Morena seek to have more competitors in the internal fight for the candidacy.

They would even try to “overthrow” the appointment of Guadiana as Coordinator of the Defense Committees of the Fourth Transformation.

David Esqueda, candidate for Morena’s candidacy for the Governor’s Office, filed a lawsuit for the protection of his political-electoral rights this Tuesday before the Electoral Tribunal of the Federal Judiciary, because Morena did not publish the call to elect a candidate Governor within the party.

The lawsuit would seek that Morena issues a call for applicants who so wish to register and the party defines, based on the methods established in its statutes, the candidate for Governor.

By issuing a call, in fact, it would overthrow the survey method carried out at the end of 2022, of which Guadiana was the winner.

Yesterday Tuesday, in Mexico City, Enrique Guzmán del Río, a Morena militant originally from Torreón, submitted a letter addressed to the National Elections Commission to request his registration as a pre-candidate for the Governor of the State of Coahuila based on the documents that presented on December 15 the representative of Morena before the Electoral Institute of Coahuila.

The applicant maintains that articles 44 and 46 of the statutes of Morena, registered with the Electoral Institute, indicate the methods for selecting candidates, which he hopes will be applied in the case of him and other applicants who register.

The “rebellion” within Morena in Coahuila occurs within the framework of the attempts of the federal Undersecretary of Public Security, Ricardo Mejía Berdeja to seek the candidacy.

On December 12, when Mario Delgado informed the candidates of the results of the polls in Coahuila, Mejía Berdeja ignored the exercise and asked to designate the candidate by another method.

The Political Council of Morena in Coahuila, whose majority is in favor of Mejía Berdeja, has also sought, through the party’s statutes, to open the registry of candidates for Governor.
