Third-biggest jackpot in US history falls in Florida

MIAMI.- A bettor in Florida got the prize greater than Mega Millions of 1.580 million dollars on Tuesday night, ending a period of draws without winners that had lasted for almost four months, according to the AP agency.

A Publix grocery store in Neptune Beach, in northeast Florida, sold the winning ticket, according to the Florida Lottery.

The winning numbers of the millionaire draw were: 13 19 20 32 33 and the yellow ball: 14. The name of the lucky person has not been revealed by the gambling agency.

Before a winner was known Tuesday, there were 31 consecutive draws since the last time someone hit the game’s jackpot on April 18.

The lack of a winner allowed the prize to steadily grow to become the third largest in US history.

To win the Mega Millions jackpot, the bettor has odds of one in 302.6 million.

The $1.58 billion payout would go to the winner if they opt for an annuity, spread over 30 years.

In most cases, winners tend to prefer the one-time payment option, which for Tuesday’s jackpot is estimated at $783.3 million after taxes.

Prize money is subject to federal tax and some states also tax lottery winnings.

Mega Millions is played in 45 states, Washington, DC, and the US Virgin Islands.
