Totally Killer found the perfect balance between comedy and horror

If Totally Killer takes up certain codes of classic slasher films such as the saga Scream, He is not shy about it. Quite the contrary! It even seems that he enjoys it and does not hesitate to cite these films as references during exchanges between the characters. However, if this novelty can be placed in the slasher category, the blood is not excessively present either. Offering some suspenseful scenes, this film also manages to be funny. He has indeed found the perfect balance between comedy and horror without one of the two genres taking over the other or it becoming ridiculous. The mixture is subtle and perfectly measured. We laugh, we shiver a little and we wonder about the identity of the killer. Because, yes, if some will guess who he is even before the outcome, we still take pleasure in establishing theories and discovering the truth about him.

The other particularity of this film is that it integrated time travel. If the idea may scare some people, rest assured, it’s a treat! The fact that the heroine finds herself in 1987 offers comic opportunities which thus underline the differences between the two eras and notably show the evolution of mentalities. Those nostalgic for the 1980s will (or not) like to rediscover this decade and its looks. The allusions to Back to the future are multiple, which does not spoil our pleasure. The adolescent side of the film with its high school heroes adds to all these combinations which make Totally Killer a success. Whether you love or hate the characters, you care about them and enjoy seeing what will happen to them. Kiernan Shipka is a very good choice for this role which she embodies to perfection. Sometimes serious, she does not lack humor and makes us want to follow her adventures with pleasure. If Totally Killer will not mark memories forever, it is no less delicious and entertaining. Nostalgia, science fiction, humor, murder and adventure… All the ingredients for an ideal evening!
