Maite Kelly is one of the most successful German pop singers – but the competition never sleeps. Now Kelly talks about her Schlager colleagues.

Cologne – Maite Kelly (43) has been on the stages of this world for most of her life. As a young girl, Maite was already traveling around and, as a member of the “Kelly Family”, inspired the whole world. At the sweet age of 13, the hit star wrote her very first song “Roses Of Red” – that’s a whopping 30 years ago. So Maite Kelly is really an old hand in show business and is now talking about how she feels about the German hit and, above all, about the competition.

For Maite Kelly, the other hit greats like Giovanni Zarrella (45), Roland Kaiser (70), Andrea Berg (57) or Kerstin Ott (41) are actually no competition at all – the pop singer feels together more like with a big family and create together the artists great. In conversation with spot on news reveals Kelly: “We are all a small stone in a big picture. By that I also mean all of our colleagues, whether Andrea Berg, Kerstin Ott, Nino de Angelo or Giovanni – we are all friends and that is simply a gift.”

“How to come home”: For Maite Kelly, joint performances with other artists are like family reunions

The singer thinks highly of her colleagues and knows exactly what makes the great Schlager artists – because in the Schlager business it takes an extra portion of courage to be successful, as she thinks: “These are always big, courageous personalities – whether Roland Kaiser, Udo Jürgens, Kerstin Ott or Andrea Berg. These are people who sing what has been lived to the outside world, who give human feelings a face with music,” explains the 43-year-old and thinks that it is what makes German hits so unique: “For me, great hit music is from the grabbed life. That connects us humans”.

For Maite, appearances like last weekend at the “Giovanni Zarrella Show” are like a big family reunion: “It’s like coming home backstage,” enthuses the likeable blonde. Kelly thinks a lot of the host and her musician colleague Giovanni Zarrella in particular: “Giovanni is someone who is the focus for others – that’s something that connects us both”.
