As a Valentine’s gift, the singer Lady Gaga gave her millions of fans the first official image of the DC Studios Joker movie: Folie à Deux, which will be released until 2024.
The sequel to the hit movie Joker, about one of Batman’s most iconic villains, will reunite Gaga with Joaquin Phoenix, who won an Oscar for his starring role.
Moments earlier, director Todd Phillips posted the same image on his Instagram account, with the caption: “Happy Valentine’s Day.” The photo immediately went viral on various social networks.
According to reports from Deadline, Lady Gaga will play a more realistic and twisted version of DC Comics character Harley Quinn, a psychiatrist who falls for the Joker before assuming his villainous form.
Margot Robbie previously played Quinn in the films Suicide Squad and Birds of Prey, while Kaley Cuoco voices the character in the HBO Max animated series Harley Quinn.
Gaga confirmed her involvement in the Joker sequel last August, along with the news that the drama film will also be a musical, something that puzzled DC fans.
The original Joker film was a critical and commercial success in 2019, becoming the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time. It won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival and was a top contender at the Academy Awards, earning 11 nominations and wins for Phoenix for Best Actor and Hildur Guðnadóttir for Best Original Score.
Joker: Folie à Deux will hit theaters from Warner Bros. on October 4, 2024, five years after the premiere of the first film.
