CDMX.- Terrifier 2: The Sinister Clown finally lands today in Mexican movie theaters, after receiving compliments from two great figures of current terror: filmmaker Mike Flanagan and writer Stephen King.

“Art the Clown (main villain) is downright hideous. The movie seems to have invented a new subgenre: the mega slasher,” Flanagan (Midnight Mass, The Haunting of Hill House) tweeted after the US premiere, in which It was reported that there were people fainting or vomiting.

“Terrifier 2: it’s disgusting, old school,” the revered King published on his social networks.

The sequel, of slasher and gore genres, is even more violent, bloodthirsty and sadistic than the first released in 2016, and contains graphic murder sequences that are among the strongest in recent cinema.

It had a budget of only about $250,000 (much of it thanks to a fundraising campaign), and despite a limited release, it has grossed more than $12 million.

“This time we focused on the protagonists and not on the villain, as in the first film. Now we brought actors from another level,” Damien Leone, the director, described in an interview.

The film is set one year after the ruthless massacre in Miles County at the hands of the clown Art of the Clown (David Howard Thornton).

The demonic monster returns and aims to subdue, kill, dismember, eat and taunt its victims.

However, his fixation will be on the members of a family made up of a widow and her two children: the teenager Sienna (Lauren LaVera) and the younger Jonathan (Elliott Fullam).

Both suffer disorders caused by the suicide of their father, who drew scenes of the crimes a year ago, as well as the portrait of the perverse executioner.

“I had to make a bigger sequel, take everything to another level. I wanted to improve the death scenes and increase the scope, since the fans wanted Art to do his thing. But what I wanted most was to include really dynamic protagonists this time .

“I wanted to have our heroine and ultimate afflicted, Sienna, as someone who could really stand up to Art the Clown and be a worthy nemesis, someone the audience could really get behind and follow. This movie is about her journey and Art’s as well. “Leone detailed.

The Terrifier 2 villain is beloved by fans of the franchise for being silent like Michael Myers and for having the visual comedy of Pennywise or the Joker.

The evil character could be seen for the first time in Leone’s first short film, The Ninth Circle (2008).

“After seeing the first short, where there are demons and creatures and monsters and all kinds of crazy things, people identified Art the Clown and said to me, ‘You have to make a movie with him, there’s a lot in there. Then after the short Terrifier (2011), the clown’s fan base grew to a point I didn’t expect.”

The version that reaches Mexican theaters is the one of 138 minutes, without cuts or any type of censorship, with classification C (only for adults).
