Pointed out for their ecological footprint, thermal cars will be banned from sale in 2035 in certain regions of the world. Conversely, the US state of Wyoming wants to ban the sale of electric cars. A way to preserve its local economy.

A few months ago, the European Parliament voted to ban the sale of thermal cars from 2035. A project in tune with the times which aims to limit the carbon footprint of diesel and petrol cars. In the same vein, other countries have followed suit, such as the United Kingdom, Singapore and Israel (2030). Across the Atlantic, California and New York State also plan to ban its sale from 2035.

Totally against these new regulations, the State of Wyoming has just attracted media attention. Several senators have just tabled a bill entitled “Phasing out sales of new electric vehicles by 2035”. The text recalls the importance of the oil and gas industries in the economy of Wyoming, which have created “countless jobs and brought revenue to the state throughout its history”.

Wyoming senators want to end electric cars

And to cite a slew of arguments directed against electric cars. Namely in particular:

  • The difficulty of recycling electric batteries.
  • The lack of charging stations in the state.
  • The difficulty for the State to source components.
  • The importance of limiting the extraction of minerals to only “vital” purposes

For all these reasons, the bill highlights two key objectives:

  • That the legislature encourage and express as a goal that the sale of new electric vehicles in the State of Wyoming be phased out by 2035.
  • That the legislature encourage Wyoming industries and citizens to limit the sale and purchase of new electric vehicles in Wyoming to phase out the sale of new electric vehicles in the state by 2035.

The bill is still far from being ratified. It also appears more like a way to denounce the gradual advent of electric cars that senators consider as a profound attack on the local economy.
