“A food crisis is coming, there will be much more expensive food because the damage that is being done today is for the following months. The protesters do not understand that they are playing with the country’s hunger. What will happen is that thousands of Peruvians will die of hunger”, he assured.

The day before, 16 national highways were affected by the interruption of traffic in more than 83 points in 9 regions of the country, despite the fact that the Ministries of the Interior and Defense announced on thursday that they will begin to unblock the roads taken by protesters demanding the resignation of Dina Boluarte and the closing of the Congress.

Zavala indicated that he is aware that the clashes between protesters and agents of the National Police have left around 60 people dead but he warned that in less than a year the hunger caused by the social crisis will generate thousands of other deaths.

“It will be a (death) differently, not with a bullet, but from hunger and malnutrition because they won’t have anything to eat. That is the problem we are facing, think about what is coming to us in the next 10 months”, he pointed out, addressing the protesters.

His statements were made in the framework of a conference of the agrarian, poultry and livestock unions of Peru in which they also urged the government to take immediate measures to unblock the highways and keep them free.

“The diet of the poorest is what is at risk here. If we don’t stop this today, the situation will be catastrophic for the country in terms of food security”, indicated for his part, Juio Favre, president of the APA. Representatives of the Association of Agricultural Producers Guilds of Peru and the Association of Dairy Farmers of Majes (AGAL Majes) were also present at the conference.
