Threads, Zuckerberg's Twitter rival, reaches 30 million users in a few hours

“Wow, 30 million records in the morning. It feels like the start of something special, but we have a lot of work ahead of us to develop the app.” With this message Mark Zuckerberg, owner of WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook, celebrated the reception of Threads, the application with which he wants to stand up to Elon Musk’s Twitter.

The launch of Threads, called the Twitter of Instagram because it is based on that social network, was experienced with euphoria from the first hours. The new application, which is not yet available in Europe due to issues related to privacy legislation, burst onto the market last Wednesday and in the first seven hours of life it had already achieved 10 million registrations.

“I bet you we’ll hit 100 million tomorrow,” a user replied to Zuckerberg, Zuck on Threads. A few hours after the release, Shakira became the first singer with more than a million followers on the recently launched ‘microblogging’ platform.

One of the keys to the success of Threads (threads in Spanish) compared to other rivals is that to log in it is necessary to have an Instagram account, a platform that exceeds 2,000 million users (Twitter is around 500 million), so if everyone opens an account, it is a good base to start. Threads can import Instagram profiles, although on the new platform this is made up of the name (which we can’t change here, but on Instagram), a biography and a link. In the Apple App Store, Threads is described as Instagram’s app based on text conversations. “At Threads, communities come together to talk about everything from today’s topics to tomorrow’s trends. Regardless of your interests, you’ll be able to follow your favorite creators and anyone who shares your tastes; or create a group of loyal followers to expose your ideas and opinions.
